This Privacy Policy describes how The Jane Network (“Jane Network,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) collects, uses, and discloses information collected from and about you, including through any websites owned and operated by us that link to this Privacy Policy, such as www.janenetworkfl.org, and any other interactions you have with us in any medium (e.g., in person, over the phone, or via email) (collectively, the “Services”).

BY ACCESSING OR OTHERWISE USING THE SERVICES, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS PRIVACY POLICY.   • Make inquiries or otherwise communicate with us in any medium, such as email or by filling out an online form (for example, to submit historical information or request information about legal services);

  • Register for a newsletter or other news updates;

  • Participate in surveys;

  • Register for or attend an event we sponsor or otherwise are involved in;

  • Subscribe to, register for, or purchase a service or product; 

  • Make a donation; or

  • Submit content or participate in forums or discussions through the Services.

The information you provide directly to us may concern you and others and may include, but is not limited to:

  • Contact, Profile, or Registration Information: Such as your name, email address, mailing address, and/or username.

  • Financial Information: Our payment processing vendors may collect payment information to process payments for the Services or donations. They may also collect certain government identifiers for fraud and other purposes permissible by law.

  • Transaction Information: We may collect information about your transactions with us, such as purchases, purchase amounts, products purchased, and dates of purchase.

  • Communications: Such as when you contact us with questions, comments, seek assistance with troubleshooting or support, or when you communicate with us through social media.

  • User-Generated Content: You may provide us with information if you participate in forums or discussions, such as if you comment on articles, post in our message boards, or “like” or otherwise interact with content on the Services.

  • Contact you with promotional content, including through online advertising, that may be of interest to you;

  • Secure and troubleshoot the Services and detect and prevent fraud and abuse;

We may aggregate and/or de-identify any information collected through the Services so that such information can no longer be linked to you or your device (“Aggregate/De-Identified Information”). We may use Aggregate/De-Identified Information for any purpose, including without limitation for research and marketing purposes, and may also disclose such data to any third parties at our discretion.

3. When We Disclose the Information We Collect

We may disclose the information we collect in the following circumstances:

Affiliates. We may disclose information to our affiliates.

Vendors. We may disclose information to vendors who perform services on our behalf. They provide a variety of services to us, including data storage, analytics, research, billing, marketing,  security, fraud prevention, and legal services.

Safety and Protection. We may disclose certain information if we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary or appropriate to protect or defend the rights, safety, or property of The Jane Network or other parties.

Legal Requirements. We may disclose certain information if we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary or appropriate to comply with any law enforcement, legal, or regulatory process, such as to respond to a warrant, subpoena, court order, or other applicable laws and regulations; or to defend or enforce our legal rights, including to enforce this Privacy Policy and any terms or other contractual arrangements to which we are a party.

Business Transfers. We may disclose certain information in connection with or during negotiations or closing of any merger, sale of our assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our organization to another organization.

Consent/At Your Direction. We may disclose your information with your consent to do so. For example, individuals seeking legal assistance may direct us to disclose information to attorneys in our network who may be able to assist you with legal needs. 

4. Data Retention

We keep your information for the time necessary for the purposes for which it is processed. The length of time for which we retain information depends on the purposes for which we collected and use it and your choices, after which time we may delete and/or aggregate it. We may also retain and use this information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

5. Security

We protect your personal information by using physical and electronic safeguards designed to improve the security of the personal information we maintain. However, as no electronic transmission or storage of personal information can be entirely secure, we can make no guarantees as to the security or privacy of your personal information.

6. Children’s Privacy

We do not knowingly collect “personal information” (as defined in the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) from children under 13 years of age, and no part of our Services are directed to or intended for use by children under 13 years of age. The Services may contain links to other websites, products, or services that we do not own or operate. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties, nor do we endorse or make any representations regarding them or their practices. Please be aware that this Privacy Policy does not apply to your activities on these third-party services or any information you disclose to these third parties. Before you provide your information to any third party, we encourage you to read its privacy policy.

8. Your Choices

a. Marketing Communications

You may contact us using the information below to instruct us not to contact you by email, postal mail, or phone regarding products, services, promotions, and/or special events that might appeal to you (e.g., our newsletter). In addition, you can opt out of receiving promotional emails from us by following the unsubscribe instructions provided in the email. Removing your name from the email list may take a reasonable amount of time. Please note that even if you opt out of promotional communications, we may still contact you regarding non-promotional matters, such as emails regarding our relationship or transactions with you (e.g., emails seeking your legal services, or notifying you that we have updated our policies).

b. Cookies

You may be able to set your web browser to notify you when you receive a cookie and to accept or refuse certain cookies. If you elect not to accept cookies, some functionality and areas of the Services may be restricted. To learn how to manage your cookies, please follow the instructions from your specific browser. If you access the Services via a mobile device, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions. Please be aware that if you disable or reject cookies, some parts of the Services may not work properly.

c. Do Not Track

California law requires us to let you know how we respond to web browser Do Not Track (“DNT”) signals. Because there currently isn’t an industry or legal standard for recognizing or honoring DNT signals, we don’t respond to them at this time.

d. California “Shine the Light” Disclosure

California’s “Shine the Light” law gives California residents the right under certain circumstances to request information from us regarding the manner in which we share certain categories of “personal information” (as defined in the Shine the Light law) with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We do not share your “personal information” with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.

9. Consent to Transfer

Our Services are designed for users in the United States. If you access our Services from outside of the United States, please be aware that information about you may be stored and processed in the United States and other countries outside the United States, which may have data protection laws that differ from the laws in your country. By using the Services, or otherwise providing us with any information, you consent to the collection, processing, maintenance, and transfer of such information in and to the United States and other applicable countries.

We reserve the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. When we do so, we will post the updated Privacy Policy on our Services with a new “Last updated” date. Updates become effective immediately on the posting of the new Privacy Policy. We encourage you to check the Services and Privacy Policy regularly. We will provide further notice of changes in accordance with legal requirements. Your use of the Services following any changes to the Privacy Policy constitutes your agreement to the terms of the revised Privacy Policy.
